Stage 6

 Stage 6

Carry on with the previous foods.

You also add in:
  • Raw apple
  • Baked goods using dried fruit as a sweetener

Almond butter and jam date bars (like Lara Bars)
  • 1/2 cup dried organic cherries (you can also use dried cranberries)
  • 1/2 cup organic pitted whole dates
  • 1 cup almonds
  • Pinch of sea salt
Process:
1. Add the nuts to the processor (I use my vitamix) and pulse until chopped fairly small. Place aside in a bowl.
2. Add the dates and cherries to the food processor and blend until it becomes like a paste. Transfer blended dates and cherries to a bowl.
3. Add the dates and cherry paste to the nuts, along with the sea salt.
4. Knead the nuts into the paste.
5. Put the mixture between two pieces of parchment paper.
6. Roll the mixture out and shape it so that it is a big rectangle about 1/2 an inch thick.
7. With a knife, cut into individual bars.
8. Store in refrigerator to help let them set.

*You could use walnuts instead of the almonds.  You can also add 3 tablespoons of cacao powder to make a chocolate version.

Tip:  I sometimes use a little almond flour to help roll and shape the paste if it is getting too sticky.

Tip:  You can also roll into ball shapes.

Tip:  You can cut out circles and add coconut butter, almond or cashew nut butter between the layers to make cookies.

Vanilla Shake
  • 1 cup of water (you can also use nut or coconut milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon avocado
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 pitted date or 1 teaspoon of honey.
Process:
1. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Tip:  To make this a chocolate shake, add 2 teaspoons of cacao.

Note:  This is a great way to get the healthy fats in.  We follow an anti-candida diet right now, so I make this shake for my kids without the banana, date or honey added.  If you're not using a frozen banana, add 1/2 cup of ice.  To sweeten I add stevia (which is not GAPS legal).

  2. Thank you!! I was working on a cookbook but then got really busy with my GAPS chocolate. www.pure7chocolate.com. It's been selling really well - so I don't have time for anything else! I do have a good fried that is coming out with a GAPS cookbook in the fall called Revive. http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Books/Revive-Hilary-Boynton-Mary-Brackett/9781624140587

  4. From Dr. Natasha’s FAQ page: When can cocoa be introduced?
Cocoa is SCD illegal. However, I find that many people can start having it occasionally on the Full GAPS Diet, once the digestive symptoms are gone. Find pure organic cocoa powder. Mixing the powder with some honey and sour cream makes a delicious dessert, and you can add it to your homemade ice cream or cakes. After trying it for the first time, observe your patient for any reactions. Cocoa is very rich in magnesium and some essential amino acids and, unless your digestive system is not ready for it, there is no need to avoid it.
